Harvesting Grain On Lanark Farm

  1. This is a picture of the threshing crew at work on the farm of Grandpa Benjamin Hymas in Liberty. He had a large farm and and family and put all those boys as well as the neighbors to work when it was threshing time. I'm not sure of the date of this picture, but I believe it was before Dad and Mom were married in 1936, so it was probably the early 1930s. This method of harvesting grain continued on for a couple of decades after this and was eventually replaced by more modern combines. The earlyiest ones of these were also horse drawn.
